My gas pedal got stuck?

On my 2002 Ford Explorer I engaged the gas pedal and started to drive, as I gradually held the gas petal it went all the way down and drove without control and I kept trying to engage the emergency brake and the brake itself, however I noticed it wasn't the cruise control. It kept driving until I had it come to a complete stop... anyone have any idea how I could fix the acceleration pedal? Thanks!
