What is this flower called?

It has a long thin stem that is about 1 1/2 feet tall, and it has a medium sized purple flower on the top of it. The petals at the tips look "cut" so that they have several points on the tips. Also, when you feel the underside of the flower, it looks like a beehive, and it has thin "scales" with the same sound as you get when you feel a straw flower. I bought it, and I don't know what it is. Any suggestions?
